I've found Spectrum shortening to be a bit better than Crisco since it's non-hydrogenated.Cathyhttp://mykitchenjourney.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5989771092214388000.post-38094001609596820882011-12-22T19:41:27.709-05:002011-12-22T19:41:27.709-05:00These were delicious and the chewiness is excellen...These were delicious and the chewiness is excellent. I never like adding shortening to any recipe but a little bit here was worth it. I substituted 3/4 c. brown sugar for 1.c white sugar and heaped up on the spiced (minus the cloves since I didn't have any). The cookies that were on the lower racks turned out better than the ones on top (not as much direct heat so they were a little raw when they came out -- perfect after cooling). Thanks for posting! :) Leafnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5989771092214388000.post-67951374674992874772011-03-10T09:37:25.743-05:002011-03-10T09:37:25.743-05:00I'm sorry they didn't turn out for you! Wh...I'm sorry they didn't turn out for you! What kind of pan did you use? I used dark nonstick half-rim baking sheets, without parchment or silicone mats. Maybe that may have been the difference?Cathyhttp://mykitchenjourney.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5989771092214388000.post-73346662515203465182011-03-10T06:34:08.407-05:002011-03-10T06:34:08.407-05:00Not sure what went wrong...They didn't crackle...Not sure what went wrong...They didn't crackle at all on the top and spread like the Red Sea. I just took a little bite straight from the oven and they taste pretty good though. I used the recipe you included to a t. When the dough was done it wasn't thick enough to roll into balls so I refrigerated it overnight and just baked them now. Doesn't really seem to have hardened them up that much though...perhaps I should have froken?Livieluvbugnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5989771092214388000.post-38920900489556592002011-01-29T22:34:24.751-05:002011-01-29T22:34:24.751-05:00These look lovely, will try these this weekend may...These look lovely, will try these this weekend maybe!!Rachelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11187268025388434201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5989771092214388000.post-32318448956405269592009-12-17T23:34:24.205-05:002009-12-17T23:34:24.205-05:00These look lovely, will try these this weekend may...These look lovely, will try these this weekend maybe!!Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11187268025388434201noreply@blogger.com
